Meet Carmela

Carmela Bennett is a licensed psychotherapist and maintains a private practice in NYC and Connecticut. She is currently seeing all patients through virtual teletherapy. As conditions improve, she hopes to begin to see clients in person in the Fall of 2021 both in her offices in NYC and Westport, Connecticut. Trained in gestalt, psychodynamic, somatic experiencing and experiential creative theory and practices, the blend of these modalities reflects her belief in working holistically with the whole person – not just the symptoms -to heal both mind, body and spirit. Carmela believes that support and connection is the catalyst that enables our intrinsic human capacity to grow and heal.

Carmela holds a doctorate from Columbia University, and a Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling. Dr. Bennett is a credentialed Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and specializes in integrating somatic experiencing into the treatment and healing of developmental and complex trauma, PTSD, and other anxiety disorders.

In addition to her therapy practice, Dr. Bennett is on the faculty of Teachers College, Columbia University where she teaches Leadership Development as a process and practice of self-development using an embodied, developmental approach, for educators and organizations.

As a certified coach, Carmela coaches and consults internationally with executives, profit, and non-profit organizations seeking to build their strategic leadership capacity and create innovative, mindful solutions to global, complex workplace initiatives.

Carmela’s lifelong participation in the creative arts, especially dance and movement, inspires her passion for integrating creativity and imagination into all aspects of her work.
